Dave
Arnold is an eclectic multi media artist utilising performance,
acting, music, writing, drawing and poetry in his work. Dave has been
involved in the underground/outsider scene of the Arts since his first
punk band and fanzine in 1978 and the launch of his own Dead Hippy
label in 1980 and Dead Happy Records in 1982. Dave also formed
the publishing and performance collective Happy House in 1992,
which led to the formation of his present arts umbrella organisation Vibezone
in 2000.
An idiosyncratic and enigmatic figure, Dave has performed his poetry and
rantings live as well as appearing on local radio and television.
In 1978 Dave published his debut poetry booklet, Patterns of Thought.
Several new Dead Happy booklets followed, leading to publication
in a variety of poetry
magazines and collections and poetry readings on local radio.
1992 saw the formation of Happy House Publishing and the release
of the poetry booklet Out To Lunch, illustrated by Private Eye cartoonist Martin Honeysett.
In 1996 a poetry performance on Meridian TV saw him dubbed, “The
Madman from Hastings” ! He appeared on the Farrago Poetry
tour of the south east and London, as well as various solo poetry performances,
including lectures on Poetry, Performance and Art at the invitation of
Hastings Art College.
Dave has also performed at a variety of poetry events including The National
Poetry Festival and appeared with Attilla The Stockbroker, Seething
Wells (NME), Charles Thompson (Medway Poets), Fiona
Pitt-Kethley and Patience Agbabi as well as Hastings - based
Other Words poets and writers John Hendrickse, Richard
Evans, Liz Finch, Michael Wilder and Justin Rhymes.
He subsequently formed the Logos Publishing and Arts Collective
with renowned sci-fi guru - writer and editor George Hay (1922-1997).
Logos edited and published a Hastings Classics writers
booklet on Robert Tressell.
